EDUCATION SECTOR:
The sever earth Quick of 2005 in District Battagram most of Education institution building and their infrastructure was damaged. To resettled and continue the education was the most difficult task for the government, local and donors organization but the sincere efforts of RUP Field team, was conducted base line survey of 10 damaged schools and data was share with the donors organization. Initially with help of Khwendo Koor and Oxfam 20 tents schools was established for male and female and provide all other facilities to the tent schools   




LIFE SAVING MATERIALS & SHELTERS DISTRIBUTION PROGRESS
The completion of assessment and data collection of the most hit area’s was observed and decided that shelter, clothing, food items and first aid/medical aid items as the most urgent requirement, saving lives and reducing vulnerability was the first target of RUP Field Team Battagram.  RUP’s workers in coordination with local community activists & volunteers carried out rescue operations in the affected areas. RUP’s team also facilitated army helicopters by identifying villages which needed immediate rescue of the injured.

RUP provided tents and food rations to 3 spontaneous camps of migrated groups in District Battagram with the help of IOM. A total of 305 families got shelter through these camps. To voice and address the needs of these camps, RUP implemented a strategy of self-management, whereby each camp had a management committee of three or more people, including women representatives for management of relief activities in the Camps. List of distributed materials was attached.

IN HEALTH SECTOR:
RUP field team organized and arranged 5 medical camps with the support of doctors, medical organizations and philanthropists from all over Battagram District. About 300 patients benefited through these camps. In total, RUP provided medical aid to 500 injured/patients during rescue and relief work. Furthermore, RUP provided medicines/medical supplies worth Rs 2.5 million worth to the government health facilities and private clinics in districts Battagram. Due to shortage of doctors, para-medical staff and medicines, RUP took a lead role in establishing liaison among these organizations/institutions and public health functionaries and provided 20 volunteer medical staff (doctors and para-medical). Two (2) psychosocial support centers in U/C Ajmerah and Battagram were established through the IOM financial support.  The RUP field teams also identified patients requiring hospitalization and sociopsycho treatment for referral to Ayoub Medical Complex Abbottabad.

 TBAs was the most urgent work in the effected areas RUP team identified TBAs and provide training with collaboration of UNICEF and 60 TBAs was trained and delivered services in delivery case efficiently.

Clean Drinking Water:
In majority of the quake-hit villages, local population faced difficulties in accessing clean drinking water. Water born and diarrhea diseases was observed in the areas, especially children and women was affected by these diseases.  RUP Field team carried out multiple initiatives to address the water and sanitation issues in the areas. With the help of IOM and UNICEF a total of 350 families were provided with jerry cans/buckets and 20 water tanks were installed in select villages for water storage and also educated 350 on Hygiene promotion.

To overcome the risk of water-borne diseases, and diarrhea portable water bottles were distributed amongst select areas in early relief phase of the earthquake. RUP’s deputed team of its engineers with IOM to carry out social feasibilities and technical surveys of damaged rural water supply schemes. As a joint venture, so far, water supply schemes have been rehabilitated/restored in 35 villages and work on another scheme is underway. Due to this initiative, over 350 families gained access to clean and safe drinking water facilities in select relief work areas in districts Battagram .  In addition, 15 latrines were constructed in hospitals, tent camps and villages through the technical and financial support of IOM and UNICEF.
